Open Houses & Anniversaries: Bayview, North Beach & Mission!

Our Neighborhood Library Campaign (NLC) may be over, but we’re still celebrating our beautiful branch libraries! Coming up this weekend: two NLC anniversaries and right around the corner is Mission Branch’s Open House & Cinco de Mayo celebration. Mark your calendars and join us!

These events are proudly funded by Friends:

North Beach Branch: 2 Year Anniversary & Open House
Come join us this Saturday, May 7th to celebrate the two year anniversary of the brand new North Beach Branch Library.

We will kick things off at 12:00 noon and run until 4:00 pm. The programs and activities include a silhouette Sunprints workshop for children at noon; a book reading by author Ernie Beyl at 1 p.m.; smoothie making activity for children at 2 p.m.; and a dance performance by the FOGG Theatre Youth Conservatory group at 3 p.m.

Bayview / Linda Brooks-Burton Branch: Open House & Community Appreciation Day
Join us this Saturday, May 7th for live jazz music by Six Roses, balloon twisting, and more in celebration of the Bayview/Linda Brooks-Burton Grand Reopening!

Mission Branch:  Open House & Cinco de Mayo Celebration
Join us on Saturday, May 14th in the Mission Branch for food, festivities & fun!

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Little Explorers Petting Zoo For Children & Families
We are very excited to offer young children the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with a variety of friendly animals. Children will meet an alpaca, a pot belly pig, a large tortoise, goats and sheep, chickens, ducks, and bunnies. Animal handlers will be available to show children how to feed animals a snack and hold smaller animals. Join us for the fun!

12-1:30 p.m. Make your Own Lip Balm
For Teens: Make your own custom lip balm with natural ingredients.

2-3:30 p.m.
Decolonize Your Diet! with Luz Calvo and Catriona Esquibel: Book Talk and Food Demonstration
A Hecho A Mano & Taste It@Your Library Presentation
Authors Luz Calvo and Catriona R. Esquibel will read passages from their new book, Decolonize Your Diet: Mexican-American Plant-Recipes for Health and Healing. Luz and Catriona spent years researching the health benefits of the ancestral foods of Latin America. In this presentation, they will discuss their findings and do a cooking demonstration of one of their original recipes, “Aguachile de Quinoa,” which is healthy, vegan, and mouthwateringly delicious!
